Mood disorders are a category of mental health conditions characterized by disturbances in a person’s mood. These disorders can involve periods of depression, elevated mood (mania), or both. Mood disorders can significantly impact daily functioning and quality of life, but they are treatable with appropriate interventions.
1.Bipolar Disorder:
. Involves episodes of mania (high energy, reduced need for sleep, grandiosity) and depression.
. Bipolar I Disorder: Includes at least one manic episode, which may be preceded or followed by hypomanic or depressive episodes.
. Bipolar II Disorder: Characterized by a pattern of depressive episodes and hypomanic episodes, but no full-blown manic episodes.
Mood disorders are common but treatable conditions. Through early intervention, strong support networks, and comprehensive treatment plans, individuals can significantly reduce symptoms and lead fulfilling lives. Understanding the symptoms, seeking professional help, and utilizing available resources are crucial steps toward effective management and recovery.
